Default I think I found the cause of the t.b. whistle

Some people with the AIRAID intake like myself have a whistle. I looked at the 3.7L TSB for the whistling and removed the throttle body, but I believe the intake is different.

However, the intake looks to be a 2 piece plastic design with the throttle body mounting only on the top piece. The top piece sits in a half-round area molded into the bottom piece. Here’s where the problem is, the top half does not fit flush with the bottom half and creates a 1/16” gap in the lower half of the throttle body bore about an inch behind the throttle body itself.

Can someone with the service manual post the page with the intake assembly. It looks like it could be fixed with some RTV sealant like the 3.7L TSB but at a different place

No, but I should have. It only takes a few minutes to take off the throttle body. I might be able to snap some pics this week.

I want to see how the intake is assembled. It looks like the top half is held on by 4 bolts but I want to make sure it's not glued together before I go messing around with it.

I should hopefully have my service manual by Thursday or Friday. It is going to be a little warmer this weekend so I should have pics by Monday. IF the intake is 2 pieces it should be an easy fix by running a bead of RTV where the 2 pieces come together by the throttle body.

I tried to put a little RTV in the gap and this did stop the whistling but it started again about a mile later because it dosen't stay in. It doesn't have much to hold onto.

it doesnt whistle because of that

increased airflow makes it whistle

most aftermarket intakes make whistles

the stock intake is very restrictive and much less air flows to the TB, hence no wistle

You might be right but, wouldn't everyone with an AIRAID have this whistle. I have had numerous vehicles with an aftermarket intake and none of them made this sound.

The throttle body butterfly opens so that the bottom swings in and the compressed airflow is directed across the gap. I feel this is causing the same effect as if you blew across the open end of a pen cap or a soda bottle. Being that the gap is small and shallow, this creates the high pitch whistle. That's my theory anyway.

Hey chvynova,

Did you happen to get any pics of fixing the throttle body?
