2017 Jeep Wrangler part on back order
I bought a 2017 Jeep wrangler in August, 2020 and now the rear deferential has gone out. The rear deferential is on back order since mid-November and now it is mid-January and still waiting with no date in sight. I bought an extended warranty so the part has to come from the manufacture. We have been in contact with FCA - chrysler customer service but they keep giving us dates but still no part. Do they compensate you after everything is done? how long do they have to fix or produce the part for my jeep? Has anyone ran into this before? I am just frustrated making my jeep payment with no jeep.
When you say "it went out", do you mean your gears blew up? That's the thing that really sux about having warranty coverage. Take the good with a lot of aggravation at times. The flip side is paying ~$1k to simply go have the gears replaced at a local shop. When that gets warranteed, they will simply swap in an entire new rear axle, but unless you report something else odd about the axle, it's really just the ring/pinion/spider gears in the diff that are bad and easily replaced.
Yep - same situation for me, too.
Dealer diagnosis of spider gears in rear diff, 2017 2-door. They'll cover the defective power train, but they ordered the gears over 2 weeks ago.
I called again today and they are telling me that the part is on back order with ETA of more than 45 days.

This is a long shot, but it worked for me once. Find an online Mopar dealer that has the part(s) you need (Amazon, Google). Many of these are actual Chrysler, Jeep dealerships that have separate businesses online and do not list their dealership name. Use the address to find the dealership name (Google, Google Earth) and give them a call. Maybe your dealership can get the part from the actual dealership if they do have it. Desperate times call for desperate measures

Not original poster, but after getting inspired by jay2013jk and Mingocreek - I called the dealer again. This time I asked for parts and asked them if they could find any in stock. He said nope. Then asked him to do a Locate. The parts guy just commented that that's what he just did. So then I pressed and asked if there was any other way the spider gears can be found (like, what do they do when they get a broken down rig and need to repair it in less than 45 days?).
So he said there were some carrier rebuild kits that included spider gears and their sister dealership in the next town over had a couple in stock. But that wasn't what was covered - the warranty was only covering the spider gears.
So, I thanked him and hung up, but then called the dealer back and asked to talk to the general manager. I got a voicemail, so left a message that I would be interested in negotiating a deal where Jeep covered the repair by using the carrier rebuild kit (instead of waiting on the back-ordered spider gears).
In less than a week, the service department called me back to schedule the repair - that they got the parts in.
I didn't ask questions - just went and got the job done - zero out of pocket expense.
The struggle was actually just me not knowing to call back and press some levers and not accept ">45 day ETA". In actuality, I feel fortunate the dealer erred on the side of customer satisfaction - Aside from the first story that resulted in me sitting around waiting for a part to come in, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
I hope original poster got the part and service done. What a step up in torque when the spider gears aren't grinding around for grab. Worth the wait - love the Jeep.
