Hello, if this is in the wrong thread let me know. I have a 3 year old to me 17 JKU HR Rubicon 60k miles. Not naming names a national branded shop quoted me today 3.73 to 4.56 Yukon gear change $4128.16 OTD price. It does include a 30k mile warranty...This is a very well maintained vehicle and has all fluids and seals in good shape. But to me that total cost sounds way to high. Just looking for a ball park +- that makes sense in the SE USA.

 

I had my '17 regeared in 2021 for right around 2k. I went from 3.73 to 5.13. The cost to regear can vary greatly from one part of the country to another. I'd shop around since you are close to Nashville, plenty of shops that can do that kind of work around that area. If you are part of a 4x4 club you might ask different members that you know had theirs regeared and ask them what they paid and who did it.

 

I have a quote for an amount that is considerably less. Considering the gap in pricing was just asking here to see if any knowledgable members would be able to rationalize the high amount. Looking at the parts list they are updating both front and rear pinion's, overhaul kits, and installation. Also included a programmer. Do you like your 5.13's? My tire size will be 35x12.5 Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

pre-covid days a regear was typically $1500 +/- and that included all parts and labor. These days....price of everything has gone up. As noted, different parts of the country would vary. I recall places in Missouri charging more than double for what the same work here in the Dallas area ran at the time. You are being quoted a pretty straightforward regear. $4100 is completely redonk for that. IDK what programmer folks are trying to sell you, but the Jscan app and a BT dongle is all you really need, and it's under $50 total between the license and dongle......not to mention that thing is great at diagnostics to boot.

 

Thats what I thought about the price too. Considering that amount I didn't even try to talk it through with the sales rep. I just responded forget it you are way overpriced. Considering the quoted amount could not reasonably be that high without totally planning to rip me off. Pretty sad businesses are out there like that.

What's the warranty most shops give for the same work? The 30K mile warranty mentioned above seems pretty good. That could be a good bit of the quoted price.

 

Charge was $299.00 for the warranty. That is a good point what warranty is typical?

 

I recently paid 1550 to regear my JK.

The thing about gears is...if they last several 1000 miles then they're good for life. Only a short warranty is needed really.
