So my sluggish 3.8L in my 2011 Sport 2-door is about to leave the chat. I’ve been looking into reman’s and swaps, and I don’t have the money for a big boy swap, but I noticed that one of the shops near me does Jasper installs and I know that Jasper’s tend to be on the cheaper side. I was looking at pricing and crunching numbers, and it seems that a Jasper V-8 (5.7 Hemi) swap isn’t far off from a 3.8 reman.
Has anyone went this route, or am I dreaming too hard? Lol
I would say you are hopeful as they are far from bolt in. With the V8 comes many things like suspension to hold the motor up, ECU/Wiring changes, programming with HP Tuners or similar, radiator, many many little things that will nickel and dime you (hoses, pipes, fittings, fasteners etc), not sure if you can use that old 4 spd auto so newer tranny (or are you manual? and if so does the manual bolt up?), also you are a 2 door and if a required newer tranny moves the TCase back (it does with Chev) then the driveshafts will go quicker due to drive line angles being steeper plus the two shafts will need to be replaced due to shorter rear and longer front one. Then if you can weld and fabricate then good otherwise you have to pay someone to do this work. Also do you have to be EPA compliant then you need CATs and sensors $700 touch.
If you can get a motor for $5-6k with wiring and ECU then I would budget around $9k to do all the work assuming you can reuse transmission, Otherwise I would add another $3-4K. These conversions are not easy, if they were everyone would have one.
