Looking to get myself a set of new brakes, and was wondering if the collective wisdom of the forums had any input as to a good set of pads/rotors/calipers to better handle 37's. Hoping for something a little more on the budget friendly end of things, and the fewer additional modifications required (i.e. new master cylinder) the better. Ultimately the best option will be whatever gives the best blend of price and performance, but I just don't know enough about brakes to be able to pick something for myself amongst the myriad options with any degree of confidence.
As always, y'all's insight is greatly appreciated!
I went with the Crown BBK years ago and been working fine for me. With your '12, your MC should be fine with a dual-piston caliper up front. Assuming you have at least a 17" wheel, pretty much a plug and play thing. I tried the J8 booster and MC years ago at the same time and it was nothing but a gigantic headache for me. I removed all that and have rolled with just the factory booster and MC on my '13 ever since.
DITTO on Crown BBK for JKs.. Still OEM on booster and M/Cyl. Went with Front only as we are on 35s with plans to go to 37s. Easy install, Working very well. BTW the PNs for our kit are Ram 1500 parts.
I went with the Dynatrac Pro Grips. No messing with the MC and you don't even have to break open the brake lines and you reuse the factory calipers. It's basically new larger diameter rotors, and caliper relocation bracket that moves the caliper outwards and new pads. I have had it on my Jeep since 2020 and it works real good. I am running 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers so definitely not the lightest tire, but the Pro Grips stop the Jeep without any problems. The Dynatrac rear pads do wear pretty quick and brake dust might be an issue but it doesn't bother me. The nice thing about the Dynatrac using the factory calipers is that you can use factory pads if you get in a pinch and can't find the Dynatrac pads. You must run a minimum of a 17" wheel and you can download and cut out the profile to make sure there won't be any issues of the caliper hitting the wheel prior to ordering the brake kit. https://www.dynatrac.com/downloads/W...structions.pdf
I've had the Dynatrac pro-grips and now the Crowne big brake kit up front (keeping the rear pro-grip). I didn't get any additional felt braking with the Crowne kit and master cylinder. But at least parts are over the counter. Shoulda just kept the dynatrac- they're very similar.
"resharp001" Glad to hear this as I just ordered mine, I was a little worried since I had not heard a lot about them. Front right caliber locked up and decided to use the problem to upgrade since I have 35's.
