Default Rear shock for steering stabilizer

Has any used a rear shock from their JK for a new steering stabilizer? Would the valving be the same? The body of the rear shock is about 1" longer than the body of the factory steering stabilizer, I have a Pro Comp steering stabilizer from my CJ5 and it looks and acts just like a normal shock. My stock shocks have about 400 miles on them and I hate to see them laying around.

I don't know much about shocks vs stabilizers, but my TF stabilizer doesn't act like a shock. My TF shocks pushes the rod out, whereas the stabilizer just offers resistance and doesn't push out from the housing.

You cannot use a shock as a SS. Shocks are meant to push the wheels down. SS are meant to keep the steering system smooth in both directions.

i am currently running a skyjacker rear shock that i took off my wifes liberty before it got traded in, in the begining there was a little difference because of shock valving,.........easier one direction than the other,........ but now.... i believe that because of the horizontal mounting it let the fluid travel into both sides, and after about a week didn't notice any difference....been running for almost a year that way no problems.........the only different thing i had to do was mount the shock backwards because of clearance issues with the shock body and axle.....originally i went through two aftermarket ones, and i started looking at some of the parts i had laying around the garage, said hey ill give it a shot, if i dont like it would replace with another aftermarket replacement.... is there a better location, to keep away from rocks, yep you bet, but hey it was free....and i have another to replace......
