Default Bigger tires / no lift

I'd like to upgrade to (285/70/17) tires on stock rims. can I do this without a lift on my unlimited X? Concerned about rubbing.

I have 255/85/16 tires on stock 16" rims with no rubbing at full turn or flex. I have since added Spidertrax spacers, but they are not necessary with this setup. I just liked the look of the tires flush with the fender flares.

I was looking at going with the Hankook MT RT03 (LT285/70R17) tires on my stock 17 wheels. Has anyone done or seen this without a lift?

Thanks!

My 285/70/17 arrive on friday. They are mounted on 17x8 pro comp rims with 4.5 backspacing.

After researching on this forum, I don't think I should have any on-road rubbing at all. Off-road with some flex I will probably rub the wells. I don't plan on doing a lot of off-roading so I'm not to worried. I also have the black plastic fenders and don't care much if they get beat up a little.

You will get a little rub on the front air dam at full lock when turning. This can be cured by just cutting a little bit off the air dam. Then you might get a slight rub on the fender in the front at full flex. Not enough that I see any damage happening, unless you were to disconnect the swaybar.

Thanks Guys. RanMan those are the same ones I'm looking to get. Edge Racing has them for $161 each, that's about the best price I've seen.

Thanks ptcomp, that's the best price I could find as well.

If I decided to add a 2.5" lift after the fact, would it look OK with 33's?

Thanks!

This is (obviously) really subjective, but 33"s would probably look OK with just a 2.5" lift... in fact, do a search through the pics on the forum and on Project-JK and I'm sure you'll find people running 33"s with a 2.5" lift! As long as YOU like the way it looks, it's all good.

Ayup.

My current plan is for 33's on stock wheels with spacers and a 2" lift. Neither tire brand or lift brand are determined at this time, for what i do that should be plenty enough to allow full articulation discoe'd without rubbing. which is all i want. Bigger tires and just enough lift to clear them and no more.

So my subjective opinion says it would look good , others will disagree, but as mentioned, the only opinion that matters is yours.
