Default Rubi 44's into Sahara- Who's done it??

Well,

As the title says I am considering putting a pair of new Mopar Rubi 44's into my '08 Sahara Auto 2dr. Both to get the Lockers and to regear from 3.73.

Has anyone done the swap and NOT wired in to the main computer?

Also, considering the electronic disconnect but again dont want to wire to the computer, mostly to avoid the locker and swaybar drop out over 18mph

The main off-road use of this jeep is dirt tracks and SAND.

As for tyres and lift it will probably end up with 33x12.50.17 on 17x9's and an OME 2-3" lift.

Any thoughts folks.

regards,

Roger

you would have to wire your abs, well you dont have to but your light would be on. alot of people are doing the front swap not sure about the rear, I believe the rubi rear is more stout but that is due to the carrirer and axle splines, the housings are the same from what i understand. it is a fairly easy swap unbolting track bars, sway bar links, drive shafts, upper and lower control arms associated wiring and brake lines. pull the old axles out and do everything in reverse to put them back in. as for the e lockers Im sure you can buy an after markrt selinoid to lock them up. i believe there is a write up on the front swap and lockers. good luck

Takes 4-6 hours. You can't wire into the system for the switch. The Sahara "brain" can't accept the fact it has a locker. A simple 20 amp or better toggle switch, no relay, no solenoid. Hook up the sensor (lower plug) at the same time so you know when it's on. Many threads here on this. When switching out the axle, it's a good time to throw in a lift as well.

Sorry, but why do you want to do this?

It won't make any difference off-road.

Keep your money and buy instead mods that will really help your Jeep for off-roading.

The front Dana 44 is stronger than the Dana 30, the rear has 32 spline shafts vs 30, it comes with 4.10 gears vs .3.73's, and it comes with a locker vs an open diff, all of these are improvements for off roading

WTF??? Lockers and stronger axles don't help off road? What have I been doing all these years? I guess I wasted my money...

If it doesn't make any difference, how about I trade you even up. My 30 and rear 44 for your front and rear 44's.

I have swapped in both front and rear rubi 44's into my X. I did not wire the lockers using the factory harness, I installed toggle switches. Works great. I can engage the lockers when I want. PM if you want more details.

If you decide to do this have the track bar brackets strengthened (welding and/or gussets) before you put them in. Will save you a lot of headache down the road.
