Wider tires rub on what????
Hi all - new to this awesome forum. Have another tire width question and have searched to try and understand.
With stock height, what is it that wider tires rub on (fenders, suspension)?
I sounds like the largest tire I have heard succesfully run is a 33X12.5.
Can I run a a 33X12.5 tire with 5" backspace on a 9 inch rim? Does it change if I run a 4 inch backspace?
I am willing to replace the fenders for fender rub with tube or the fender mod... but somehow can't figure our how to movethe suspension compnents out of the way...
I would laso like to hold on a lift for now but need the wider tire. Thanks for any help!

no two tires of different make will measure up the same. depending on the make, wider tires may rub the rear sway bar and possibly the link ends where they attach to the sway bar at a flex. they will also rub your front sway bar and frame at a full turn. if you try to run disconnected, they will catch on your sway bar links and give you a blow out.
wheels with 5" of BS or less will cover you but i would recommend that you get a wheel with an 8" width.
BTW - welcome to JK-Forum

Thanks so much!!!! starting to understand...
So with my stock height, I 've got to get enough backspace to keep the tires off the suspension. Since it looks like lots of folks here do it the crager steel 17X8 with 4.5 BS should do that. But it sounds like i have to be careful which tires i get or even though the wheels push it back, the wider tire could still rub and that still depends on brand.
If I go with the Soft 8 crager wheel - Can I get by with 33x12.50R17LT from interco (TrXus STS All Terrain Radial)? Has anone used these yet?
Thanks agin for your patience!

yes, you'll be just fine with that setup. trxus are a good tough tire but they can be a bit difficult to balance. i used to run them on my tj for years and have had to have them balanced multiple times before they would be right.
Quick update for others looking to keep with stock height. I ended up going with MT 17" for the rims and BFG 285/75/17 - no rub even with flex. I have an X and no disco and use my jeep on the sand for surf fishing and as daily driver. Still plan on tube fenders when they work all the kinks out...
