Hi all,
we have a set of rims with dual bolt pattern which are 5x5 and 5x5.5. To run these on a dana 60 obviously the center bore will need to be enlarged as it now less than 4". Is it safe to do this exercise?
or just get a new (large center bore) set?
Thanks,

Thanks,
you say these rims are dual pattern , that's one strike against them. They have a second set of holes ( material missing). Now the centerhole would have to be opened up another inch. More material removed. You would be in a situation of no ability to do any sort of driving or manuvers that included turns or side loads on these carved out rims, for fear of breaking one. I wouldn't trust my rig's safety much less my family and friends safety on a set of wheels that can obviously be replaced easily. Switch them out, you'll be glad you did....
I know the question is kind of settle now, but just for reference I had a set of wheels bored out from 57mm to 62mm back when I was into sports cars and I thought that was virtually nothing. None of the shops I went to felt comfortable doing it so I ended up at a shop in an alley in the middle of the city. If 5mm was iffy for everyone, then I would figure an inch would really be pushing it. The wheels also only had one bolt pattern. So yeah...good choice...new wheels.
