Default What are the true tire widths for 35x12.5?

I've been looking around at tires and trying to decide what MT's to go with and I've noticed that there is a difference between the brands that are noted at 12.5" wide...

Toyo for example is just over 13", where the KM2s are listed at exactly 12.5"...does anyone know any others??

X2. You'll really want to see and measure the tire is tread width is a concern. Hardly any tires are the stated width at the tread. It can be very confusing at times, especially when trying to mate a wheel with the tire.

12.5 is the width of the buldging sidewall aka section width.

Acutal tread width has to be measured after tire has been mounted. Manufactures dont even list the width from what I found on tirerack.

It depends largely on the width of the rim you are installing them on as well. Most mfg. will list a width on a certain rim width, change that, you'll change the measurement as well.

Tirerack has a really good chart for each brand/model of tire that shows different size tires and what thier actual measurements are including the width of the rim they measured it on.

just so you know, even what is listed on a website as an actual dimension is in reality rarely accurate. every make is different and most tend to be smaller than what is listed.
