re-gearing

Default re-gearing

When i re-gear...do i have to replacethe gears within the transfer case or jsut the gears in the rear axle?

You will need to regear the front and rear axles. The transfer case is a different animal.

ok, i got a budde that said he could do the gears, but said he has never delt with a tranfer case...glad to know he wont have to... thanks for lettin me know!

Do you have a 2wd? if not you have to do front and rear. You will F#$% stuff up bad if you just change one axle. Like said above transfer case is different. As far as I know there are no kits out there to change ratio of JK transfer cases yet. There may be some 4:1 kits later on like for the TJ but that will only affect 4 lo.

Errrm, if he doesn't know the different, you prolly don't want him doing your gears!

Understandable...I deffenatly would like to do the lift install myself (tera 3 inch), will i have a problem with axle alignment?

qft. I wouldn't let him near my rig if he doesn't know you must do both... then again I am real picky. If I don't do something myself, it is getting done by a shop with a good reputation. Nothing against your friend, but if he screws up, I doubt he is going to repair/replace anything.

I did the TF inch lift and needed an alignment after. I would def mark the steering wheel though cause its not going to be straight after you lift it

why do you need to mark it and how? I am wondering. Straightening the steering wheel after lift is as easy as changing the oil, maybe even easier.
