Default Trektop is on! Now a few questions

My Trektop arrived last week and weather was perfect this weekend to install the top. After letting the top warm in the sun, istallation was smooth and simple. I love the look, but I have a few questions. Hopefully those of you who also have a Trektop might provide a few answers. I'll also be asking Bestop these same questions, but it could not hurt asking a wider audience.

First of all, here is the final product:

I am getting wind noise at the header, over the driver's side. There is a gap at the header. It is sealed, but noisy. Anyone else seen this before?

I know that someone mentioned in a a different thread that the V-shaped washer intended to force the header forward. I tried with the washer the opposite direction, but it did not work. I am pretty sure, that I am using it correctly, but I'd love to hear your opinions.

The other problem is at the tailgate. I am using a tailgate bar rather than velcro to the tailgate. The window is in place, the sides are snug, but the velcro does not line up with the tailgate bar. The strip is almost an inch longer than it needs to be to match the tailgate bar. Has anyone esle seen this?

I'm considering the Trektop too, I have a question, does it come with the tailgate bar or did you use the OE and installed it on the Trektop. I must say that I don't want to use the velcro thing.
Thanks.

The Trektop did not come with the tailgate bar. It is supposed to work with it however.

I just got my trektop this past weekend and installed it too... man is that first screw above the windshield hard to get in... from what I can tell the way that you have it on there is the correct way and the way that I did it too... I dont have a gap up in that front area up above the front driver side windshield so you might want to see if bestop can do something about that. Also overnight last night it rained pretty hard and im getting some leaks in that same area but that is a normal spot I suppose for these JKs the one that I am conserned about is that I have a pretty good leak following the seam above the sound bar to the point that it is soaking the padding around it and dripping onto the slush mats in my back seat. Concerning your use of the bar in the back it looks good I was considering doing the same thing the only thing i was worried about was rain following down the slanted window in the back and just flooding the back since it would be leading it right down the inside of the tailgate... actually once it is connected and everything with the velcro on the tailgate it really has a clean look and when the window is not in or rolled up you really cant even notice the velcro on the tailgate.

There is a thread here on this forum that addresses your leak issue. Something about using a substanced used to fix leaky tents. They said you can find it at Walmart in the camping section.

Good luck!

That looks about a 1/4" bigger than the gap I have on my stock 4 door soft top. That seals up right?

Ya I was looking at it a few minutes ago... I need to do something about it because I went out about a half an hour ago to check on it since it is still raining pretty good and the padding around my sound pod is soaked.

Well, spinning the threaded standoff of the header 180 degrees does not work (worth attempting). I tried seating the entire top again by removing it and seating the header first and then tightenting the entire top. This improved things a bit (I'll post pictures and report on wind noise tomorrow). The tailgate is not much better however.

Default Some Bestop Response

Here are the pics of the header once I spent some time seating the entire top forward a bit more.

Driver's Side

Passenger's Side

Wind noise is not much better however.

Bestop has told me to contact the distributor and request a replacement header. We'll see what happens.

With regards to the tailgate: This is how it is supposed to fit. and I quote:
This will happen when using the tailgate option, it will make the window seem too long as the top was designed to be installed with the velcro on the tailgate, not the tailgate bar. The bar is an option that will allow for you to not have to install the velcro on the vehicle, but rather on the tailgate bar, however, will also give a slightly looser fit of the rear window.
I am not ecstatic about this fact. Here is some pictures of the slightly looser fit when I seat the window into the tailgate velcro:

I'll most likely have my wife modify the tail of the window panel to make it shorter and add velcro in the correct location for the tailgate bar (after I find out if the top leaks since this modification will probably void my warranty). I informed Bestop that they should make this an order-able option for the rear window panel (tailgate velcro length, or tailgate bar length), but they said that they were not interested.

you got the header to fit tighter than mine. Bestop sent me a new header, I have yet to try it out though.

The rear window fits the same as mine, I think the velcro's a better fit, than the tailgate bar
