Cooltech Exhaust
Anyone bought the muffler kit from the site sponser Cooltech? They haven't responded to my email and wasn't even sure they are still around. It seemed like a nice kit so I would think someone here has bought one, anyone?
Their exhaust was my first mod. My stock muffler had like 300 miles on it before installing this kit. It is really easy, it takes about an hour as long as you have a sawzall and basic mechanical ability. I also have their cb antenna + mic mounts.
I put it in. I liked the fact that it relocated the muffler out of the way so that I will have a place for my viair tank here in a few weeks. The sound is pretty good and it seemed to open it up a bit, although don't expect miracles on the HP gains. If you are creative or have a good muffler shop, though, you could probably get a muffler cut in and a custom tail pipe built for the same money or less.
I just installed mine last weekend. It took about 3 hours to get the exhaust off, about 1/2 hr. to measure, measure and measure again to be sure then cut. And about an hour to put this kit on. Everything went well and I am happy with this kit. I have noticed mild power and mileage gain.

I have the Cool Tech exhaust system and am very happy with it. The heat shield works great! Not sure if there's more power or not - don't care. I wanted that beast of an OEM muffler out of the rear. Have to admit the Magnaflow sounds pretty good!

I think this is true... and there's nothing wrong with this approach. However, here's what I think the differences are with the Cool Tech kit - that are not normally all found at a muffler shop.
Again, I'm not trying to knock the muffler shop approach. There are certainly some good ones out there. However, it may be incorrect to assume that a welded-in system is better than a clamp-in system... especially when your exhaust is already stainless and your kit comes only with the best available hardware.
- We use an all-stainless, double wall stainless MagnaFlow muffler with a Lifetime Warranty
- We use 1" all-stainless band clamps with Grade 8 hardware. Most muffler shops will use a MIG wire welder with steel wire. The OEM exhaist of the Jeep is stainless steel so the MIG weld will become the rust point. There are no steel welds on the Cool Tech kit.
- The Cool Tech tailpipe is not a bling-bling tailpipe but it is all-stainless and an solid stainless steel hanger is TIG-welded (with stainless rod) to maintain OEM anti-rust qualities.
- The Cool Tech kit comes with a custom aluminum heat shield to protect your Jeep. Stainless steel band clamps are used to secure the heat shield.
- With the Cool Tech kit, you have the option to do your own install. Whether self-installed or installed by a shop for you, rust-prone MIG welds and/or ordinary metal hangers can be avoided.
