Default e-disco protection

I just received my RR XHD front bumper which will be going on tomorrow. In looking at the front after the removal of the air-dam, I realize how exposed the e-disco really is. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good functioning skid plate that would work with the RR XHD. Do I really even need one? I have wheeled plenty with the stock air-dam on there and never had a problem, however, it just looks really exposed with the new bumper. I have seen the skid plate in Quadratec, just not sure if I need it or if there is something better out there. Any input would be appreciated.

Yes, RR makes one to go on that bumper. It's not very expensive.

I had posted a thread a long time ago posing a similar question and the general idea was that the skid plate for edisco isn't necessary.

IMO, I disagree, but in my case I have a ARB bumper and no skid for my edisco:-(

At one point there was some discussion of needing a plate. But, for mud and water and not rock protection. The discussion was purely theoretical, but no one in the discussion that had protection on the disconnect motor had problems with it. Food for thought.

I think that's something that we'd consider making at some point. It should be pretty inexpensive to make.

When running over higher brush I noticed that it got up into the motor (not a problem) and the electrical connectors (a problem). I purchased a piece of 16 gauge 18"x8" metal from Lowes, cut and bent it to shape, drilled some holes, and painted it black:

Then mounted it:

No problems with sticks and stuff getting into my electrical connections.

This was exactly what I was thinking of doing. I was not aware that RR made a skid for the e-disco. I will look for it and figure out which route would be best to go. Thanks for the replies.

Default I have an alternative idea,...

One of the reasons I got this bumper was to offer protection to the items in the front of my jeep.
The discos are totally covered up here. Check it out,... Iron Bull Bumpers

Here's a link to more pictures and info,...

They also have a stubby as well as a stinger model.
