Default Need some help with project "Go BIG or go home"

Need some help from you guys. My son, Kory, and I were going to build our Jeep JK to fit 40’s under it and put the Dodge Cummins engine in it, just to see the big black cloud of unburned diesel. In October of ‘08 Kory was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was a month shy of 25 birthday. He was the one that was not afraid to try anything and he was going to figure out the differentials and do the welding for the lift and bumpers we were going to build. The money was going to come from the selling of my truck but with the economy the way it is I didn’t get as much as if I could have sold it then. It took me this long to be able to sell my truck because he loved it. Kory always said “Go BIG or go home” so that is what I am going to name the project in memory of my son. I called one of the vendors sponsoring on the forum the other day to get a price and then realized I can’t afford to have someone do this for me. I am not saying anything about the vendor or their prices because they build some awesome JK’s. It is out of my price range to do it with new part and pay for someone’s labor. What I am asking if you may have Differentials and other parts used that need minor work because I can do that but have never aligned gears in the diff. or welded. Son would have read up on it and asked around and been able to do it. That is how he rebuilt his VW gearbox and a friends Audi A4 gearbox and welded a new exhaust for his car. Never afraid!! I miss him so much for his no fear and his big smile. The wife said she is all for me doing it. The plan is to buy the 6” or 6.5” lift new. Just trying to figure what is the best lift for the project.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Here are some pics of Kory, me and his buddy with the Audi.

First of all I am really sorry for your loss!!

There is one JK out there with a cummins diesel but they used the frame and axles from a full sized dodge truck. basically swapped the jk body on a dodge diesel 4x4 I don't think the JK's frame or axles can handle that kind of torque. The cummins is very very similar to the engine used in the tractor trailers. Total overkill but sounds fun as heck!!

Default Thank you

THANK YOU!! Kory was an amazing son.

I did see in the forum the talk about the diesel engine and they used the dodge truck frame. it's not a jeep at that point. Kory would have agreed that to not do that. Smoke is bad ass but you need to keep it a Jeep. Either turbo or super charger would be our next choice, but not going to find a used one of those out there. Kory would figured a way to turbo most likely. His VW was turboed and he was looking at having over 400hp by the time he finished. That's my next project is to finish his car. Wife wants to race it in the autocross.
