Default Obi Won what is this f-in part? (Front Dana 44 w/ Trulock)

I regeared the my front Dana 44 last weekend and all was well after I got it together then this morning on the way to work the front started making noise. I am gonna open er up this weekend but this little pin came out when we first pulled the carrier. We scoured the housing and carrier for where it came from for an hour but ended up put it back together w/o it. Sounds stupid eh, but whats done is done. So does anyone know what this pin is? After an hour of looking we came to be brilliant conclusion that is must have mistakenly got in there during assembly. It kinda fell into the the bottom of the case into the oil as well pulled the carrier out. It's .625 long and .156 in diameter.

Who knows, maybe this is a random part and I gotta mess with the backlash and pinion depth again but its gonna drive me carzy if I don't ask the question.

Please obi won, you are my only hope

crap

If it were longer, I would guess it is a pinion shaft retainer pin (spider gear).
Could it be a part of a broken retainer pin?

Sorry dude. Ain't but one thing it can be. EIther the entire or part of the cross shaft retainer pin. They do break on occasion.

It looks like it might be a rolling wheel for a bearing of some sort.

but I have never done a gear change.

The axle is a Tru lock aka the Rubicon D44. I swapped the mopar front end in about a year ago.

It's not a pin for the spider gears, they're much bigger, shinier and in place. It's not a roller bearing, much too small and has a black painted or oxide code finish with little wear to indicate where it's from.

If I had to guess, it seems to be a retaining pin of some sort but from where . . . no idea.

I'm looking at it now and both sides have the black finish on them so it doesn't look like it sheared or broke. A little bit of the finish has rubbed off so its definately an applied finish on steel (it's magnetic).

I think it's called a "rolling pin"

I have been searching high and low for a diagram of the carrier assy online. Thanks so much. I don't think it's no. 17 as I believe 17 is:

that shiny pin in the hole in the carrier but I'd like to verify. Do you have a PN for it?

Thanks
