I busted my axle shaft in an F'ed up situation. Need help, even if it's just advice. Jeeps in San Marcos Hills.

I'm going back up to spend the night with it, but my cell phone works. Please call if you are able to give advice or help...here's my number 619-379-4150

We are getting a crew together for tomorrow morning to help get him out. If anyone wants to make a run, we will be meeting at the AM/PM off of Deer Springs in the morning. I am waiting for the exact time, but let's plan on 9am. If someone that knows SM hills well would come, it would be much appreciated! I know where he is, just don't know how to get there exactly.

If you go earlier I can help but the wife has something she cannot miss at noon and I have to watch the little one.

Do you know that area well? I'll go earlier if it means that I have someone that can get me to him. I can explain where he is to someone, just don't know the fast way there.

Did you try to see if you can drive it in 2WD?

Being that the shaft is broken at the c near the wheel, that should make it so the tire is not stable. The tire is barely hanging on. I don't think it is drivable the way it is, and he won't make it out of that are in 2wd or with a tire that digs.

This one is going to need a new axle shaft and ujoint, probably wheel hub assembly too.

Current update: He has an International on 40's that is also a Tow truck going up there with him now, This tow truck, MAY be able to lift the front end and pull him out. If not, we are going to try to find an axle shaft and wheel hub assembly in the morning and go up there for an on trail repair.

If anyone has any donor parts, let us know!!

On a closer look, it looks like he also broke the part of the axle where the wheel hub mounts on. Arghh, we are going to need to weld that if we want that tire to stay stable to get it out. Anyone have a mobile welder/generator that will fit in the back of a jeep?

Gerrit, when you get back home and post, let me know if you also broke the upper mount. If that lower one gets welded, you can probably limp out in 3 wheel drive. You are going to need more than an axle shaft.....you are going to need a housing too!

OK, I'm back at home. We are gonna get back at it in the morning. The Tow truck driver doesn't seem to be much help, but said if I can get it out of the rut and to more "level" ground, then they could get me out. So, the plan is to head up in the morning. I will likely get up there about 6:30 am, but I can come back down to the AM / PM at anytime to meet people and lead them back up.

Rand, let me know what time you guys are down to meet at AM / PM. Tools will definitely help. I am bringing digging bars, picks, shovels, straps, basic tools, cutting torch, ????? I will probably rent a tow dolly to save some money too.

Ok, I will get up early and load up my tools and straps.YOu bring a cutting torch and I will see if I can get a 110 welder and will bring my Honda generator and a grinder. I wish I could get my big welder/generator out there. At 600lbs, I can't quite lift it into the jeep myself.

Are you staying out there tonight?

I am going to try to get down that way by 8am. If anyone else can come, please do.

I'll call you in the morning Gerrit and you can lead me up.
