Default Beware

Beware this flu bug that is traveling around SoCal. It hit my 16 month old son on Wed. and me last night. It comes on fast and without warning fever, vomiting, and everything else.

What a way to spend my actual wedding anniversary.

The good thing is I bet I lost a couple of pounds.

Take your vitamins kids.

Hope everyone is better now! A bunch of people in the office are sniffling... that's not the beginning of it, is it?

Well, at least it's not Ebola, Hanta Virus, or West Congo Hemorrhagic Fever.

Nope, I refuse to get the flu shot. And my kids pediatrician refuses to give him the flu shot (one of the reasons we like him)

This was the first time i puked without the assistance of alcohol in close to 30 years. I totally made up for it.

It was so bad I couldn't even think about modding the Jeep and I have permission to get 35's and new wheels

I had to take a break to rest half way down the stairs.

My 2.5 year old looks like he might be coming down with something as well.

Default flu

I'm a P.A. at an urgent care in the high desert and we've been seeing a couple different strains going around. one strain delivers typical flu symptoms with light headedness and nausea caused by incresed middle ear pressure. the best method to treatment is antihistamines like benadryl, plenty of fluids and rest. if symptoms go over 2 wks or fevers persistant over 102 more than a couple days, i'd get evaluated. the other strain we're seeing goes right to the G.I. tract with relentless vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramping. fevers are less likely and symptoms usually improve within 3-4 days. treatment should be clear fluids tolorated for 12 hrs without dairy or citrus. after keeping down fluids, begin a BRAT diet for 12-24 hrs and gradually return to a normal diet. kids and elderly are at an increased risk of dehydration. if sypmtoms last more than 5 days, seek attention. hopefully that will keep some of you out of the urgent care or ER

Thanks. FYI it was the second one. My son is doing better, but has very little appetite, keeping everything down though
