I want one of those! After seeing what happened to Lina at Roctoberfest and thinking that could happen somewhere really remote and it would have been very bad. Thanks for posting up about the sale!

I got a Spot Connect last month. So far very cool. Works with iPhone, iPad, Android. Subscription is spendy, depending on what messaging plan you go with, but in addition to being able to signal someone for help or alert SAR if something serious happens, you can also send text messages via sat, too (Spot Messengers can only send OK messages, not custom text). Lastly, you can have it update a webpage as often as every ten minutes so folks back home can see your progress.

In short, geek likey!

 

always use dedicate device for sat comm, no bluetooth wifi or what ever reason what if you do a 2.1 and break you phone, or batt dead in the water remember its for critical emergency only it will be cheaper that way too
