Default CB tuning.

so today I decide to check the my antenna tuning. I take the antenna cap off, plug everything in the swr metter, go to channel 1, get 1.6 then go to channel 40, get the same thing... great the antenna is good put the antenna cap back on. Then I check it again with the cap on, then the reading for channel 40 gives me 2.7 so it take the cap off again, recheck chan.1 get 1.6, chan. 40 get 1.6, put the cap back on and chan. 40 gives me again 2.7

is that normal. Do you guys take your reading with the cap on or off ?

Default something not right

Check your SWR meter at mid band and calibrate to that ( channel 20 )

I have always tuned the ANT at mid band whether it's 23 channel or 40

the reason being is that you want to use all of your wave length that the ANT has

true you would have more output at mid band and weaker on ch1 and 40
but your only talking milli watts

Thanks guys, I guess I have always done it wrong since I have always done my reading with the cap off.
