I found this statement in an article I was reading.

House Republicans offered to pass legislation Tuesday that would keep parks open, but Democrats rejected it, saying that it was a piecemeal approach and that the nation needed to pass a "clean budget" that does not try to overturn President Obama's health care law.

Well good news is we have big bear, ocotillo, hemet, there's trails all over even freestyle rock crawling by Victorville....so plenty of stuff to go wheel still....

Corral canyon is fun but its a temporary closure unlike the issue facing johnson valley...

Johnson Valley is moving in a positive way and I believe it will be finalized very soon. I don’t think you understand the magnitude of keeping these parks open. It may not affect you personally, but there are people that like to recreate in some of these closed areas across the country and even make a living doing so. Tom Slik is going with his daughter and her class to DC. Will they still go if all of the places that they went there to see there were closed? There are also to be no organized events on BLM land. This would include ALL jeep events.

This shutdown is a issue over obamacare and not parks. They shutdown temporarily till they put enough pressure on the powers to be to find a neutral ground they can agree on....
Anything federal has to shutdown or else it wwouldnt bother anyone that they shut down.

Unless I'm missing something corral canyon will be back up as soon as they turn the lights on in DC so its not a dire t hit against us....its just an effect of the situation so more a inconvienence than anything....

As far as stuff beings closed yeah that sucks and taking a trip and having something closed sucks but stuff happens....

You know, I just wanted to let people know that Corral Canton was closed. I did not want a debate. But I will chime in one final time with another angle just for you and you can have the last word. There is a fund raiser for breast cancer that was scheduled on BLM land. It was almost canceled, but they were able to move it to private lane. They are very concerned about the support (turn out) they are going to receive. A lot of groups have once a year events that could be canceled. These groups are the heart of the movement that keeps money flowing in to the efforts that keep our trails open for Jeeping. So let’s hope this doesn’t go on for too long.

Ok so big bear will still be open for wheeling? Any one know if there's areas around it that'll be closed because of it? Going on a wheeling adventure this weekend up there and I don't wanna get there and be pissed because it turns out I can't actually play..

If it is State land it will be open as usual. If it is Federal it could be closed. I received a report that the entrance to the dunes south of highway 8 has a gate and it is closed. There are many ways in to that area if you know where they are and it is difficult to close such an open area. If your favorite trail has a gate and it is on federal land you may want to have a backup trail just in case.
