Cottonwood canyon is easy and Kool, very Sandy only go to where the Cliffs are about 10 Miles. Not worth going any further. trailhead just behind the RV park.

in the same area is Darwin a great place to Visit and some great wheeling to be had. and to check out the houses and people quite freaky.

if going north check out the Eureka Dunes.

stay away from Crankshaft Canyon long way for nothing.

On your way home you could go to Ballarat ghost town and out via Trona

Rhyolite seems very doable, and Darwin seems like a blast do you know about how far the furnace creek to darwin trip would be, is it an all day trip? Cottonwood canyon isnt on the death valley web map but I will keep looking

Cloride Cliff is a spectacular view of the Valley. The Charcole Kilns and Wildrose Peak are great too. Johnson Canyon hosts Hungry Bill Ranch. There are still some rock walls and an orchard. Butte Valley to Mengle Pass and out to Panamint Valley is a nice way to leave for home (if you are heading west). Where in Furnace Creek are you staying?

X2 on airing down. I've done the road to racetrack many times and it is washboard central. It is totally worth the drive out though. It can be downright cold up there so dont forget the jacket. The Charcoal Kilns would be on your way out to Trona. They are pretty cool to see.
Are you getting a cabin or camping? The top of Sunset Campground has a nice view and can be much more quiet.

If you are going to the suds and grub on Wednesday, I would be happy to bring up a map and some stories of old trips.
