Default 'Foreign' objects on Pacific Crest Trail

Just an FYI to anyone.

In section A; a story about nails found on
the trail between Rosamond and Tehachapi, specifically on the Pacific
Trail. It appears someone may be retaliating against illegal off-roaders
traveling thru easement routes, installing nail spikes into the ground
made to puncture ATV, motorcycle or 4X4 tires.

Apparently, they are first placing nails into cups of cement, letting it
dry, then placing them strategically on the trails. Last count was
fifty. To date, after deputies investigated, they were removed.

Well I guess those people weren't thinking huh? Although vehicles are not permitted on the PCT, horses and people are, and the nails can probably do them more serious harm to them then a tire, which is probably few and far between .

Before my dad retired as a USFS Ranger he used to occassionally patrol the Riverside/San Diego County secion of the PCT on foot and horseback looking for stuff like that.

That section of the PCT passes through an area that is also frequented by motorcyclists, four wheelers, mountain bikers, and others. The PCT is poorly marked and could easily be mistaken as just another motorcycle trail in this area that is criss crossed with all sorts of trails and dirt roads. If these asshats wanted to do something constructive they could add some more trail markers so there would be fewer mistakes instead of endangering others.

Me too, I've wanted to do both the Appalachian Trail and the PCT but it doesn't look like it's ever going to happen.

It's unfortunate that there are douche-bags that do things like this.
I hope that they catch the people that do these things.
