Found a Great Jeep Tech
If any of you have been following my travails with my e-sway-bar system, on this section and on
the Modified JK Tech section, you know that I had unanswered questions and a disconnected
e-sway-bar for several weeks. As recommended, I did buy the EVO No Limits Manual Sway-Bar
disconnect and finally had it installed this morning at Jack Powell Jeep in Escondido by their "go-to" tech, Dave Buchard, who has a highly modified rock crawler TJ, and will be at TDS this weekend. The folks at EVO said that this mod would take about 15 minutes, if all went well. It didn't, and if Dave hadn't been the tech, I probably would have had to spend $2,000 for a new e-sway-bar system.
- Dave installed the EVO manual system, and it didn't work.
- He then completely removed the entire e-sway-bar and disassembled the mechanical side of
the e-sway-bar system to see why it wouldn't activate. It turned out the the piston that actually connects or disconnects the sway-bar, and is the point of contact for the EVO manual system spring, was stuck in its housing and in bad need of a little grease. Dave added a little grease and flexed the sway-bar a couple of times and piston worked just fine. He then reassembled the mechanical side, bolted on the EVO manual activator and bench tested it several times. Flawless performance. Dave then reinstalled the entire sway-bar system and tested it again with the Jeep sitting on the ground. Again flawless perfromance.
Finally, he filled the electrical connector with dielectric grease and sealed it in a baggie and zip tied it to the frame about 6" above the sway-bar.
- Dave said that he was forbidden, by Jeep, from turning off the dashboard "Sway Bar" warning light as it is a safety feature. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know.
- Bottom line, this was not an electrical failure as I originally thought, but it is a problem on the mechanical side of the e-system that can be fixed with 25 cents worth of grease. Who knew?

Some of the programmers will turn off the light. ProCal will do it the cheapest.
I like the EVO conversion. It wasn't available when I first thought about a manual conversion.
Here is how I converted mine to manual. A couple of posts into it is a photobucket link to see it work.
