Default Going to glamis!

I'm going to take the jeep to glamis this weekend. I have never been jeeping in the sand dunes before. Any thing I should know? Any advice? Should I disconnect my sway bars? Thanks

As far as in the dunes, not cruising the sandhighway & not hanging out at Olds or Comp. Air waaay down, keep your momentum up, wont need to disconnect, make stops w/common sense (downhill as opposed to uphill, at the top, opposed to bottom) & always crest & ride the tops of dunes NEVER straight up or down to get over the tops, to avoid dropping into a razorback. Being by yourself, definately stay near the smaller stuff (Glamis has a funny way of sucking you into the big stuff) & know your landmarks (the highway, the railroad tracks, the store, etc). Keep your eyes up & dont forget the flag & pass fee when you get there. Have fun & be safe. Glamis has lost a lot of the luster it used to have to me (from 70, 80, 90's) & I only make it out once in awhile nowadays on off weekends.

I have a great time in the dunes with the jeeps. I have been all over Glamis in 3 jeeps now. 90 YJ, 99 TJ, and 07 JKU. Key items,

AIR Down, I run 10psi down to 8psi.
Unless I am on sand highway I leave it in 4 low
YES Disconnect sway bar, make a huge difference, when working over the top of the dunes your front will be fully flexed out.

You can go anywhere a rinho can go and generally better!

Not sure how much time you have spent on Quads or Motorcycles in Glamis. I ride a little but I enjoy following my buddies on the quads in the jeep. And yes I have pulled Olds in both the TJ and JKU up the left side but straight up not the far left that has an easier line. With some major power adders I should pull the hard lines up olds.

Little Trick, when going down a steeper dune, hit the brakes just before the bottom to send loose sand down in front of you so you can create a little ramp at the bottom.

Remember and this is the best thing I was taught, "When in doubt, Power Out"

I only have a couple of photos that I can post, but if I have time before leaving for Panamint Valley Days tomorrow morning I will post for you. Any other questions let me know. I am totally looking forward to getting out their this year, if we weren't going to Panamint we would be going to Glamis.

Enjoy

Thanks for the tips. I will get some pics this weekend and post them here. I have been to glamis alot but only with my quad. Never the jeep. I'm looking forward to it. I'm fully locked front and rear so I'm sure I will be able to go just about any where. Just a little nervous about dropping into a dune and not being able to get back out. Haha. We will see!

Running with the front locker on really doesn't seem to make much of difference. Also 4 lo will disable the traction control which is a must in the sand. I think next trip I will actually use my programmer to totally disable the traction control so I won't have to worry about it in 4HI either.

Usually we spend a few days around new years and around Glamis cleanup we go. Be fun to get a group of us together.

Since you have been out ridding, you already are aware of many of the items Highwayman said, but for those that are reading this thread, he add's good and valid points.

I'd love to do Glamis in the JK!

I've hit Pismo a couple of times in the JK and on a RZR-S. Both of these are way different than a bike or quad. Kind of a weird feeling for me not being able to use weight shift while "railing" a dune (very small ones in the JK).

Post it! We will come!

Yeah. I was going to post it up but it was a last minute thing. Everyone is welcome to come up. We are going tonight and I'm leaving Saturday night.

I prefer jeepin down in Gordens Well Its all about horsepower and momentum. Make sure you have a shovel and flag/whip. Keep away from the crazy riders on quads.

After your first time you will be addicted
