Default Help with gears anyone?

So here we go again....does anyone know how to do gears? I am planning on doing it my self in the near future. If anyone knows and is willing to help hit me up...also any pointers are appreciated.

My best advice is to have the money on hand to be able to tow or haul the Jeep to a mechanic to install the gears when something goes wrong.

Doing your own gears isn't like installing a bumper or CB. Can't leave in the middle when your daughter needs to go to a doctor appt. or your son needs to get home from school.

There is a step by step process somewhere on the forum. You should use the search feature and find it. I had planned on doing my own gears until I learned about all the specialty tools involved and the kind of stuff that can go wrong by being .001" off.

My jeep rarely sees a shops , but when it came to gears I took it to one

Gears are touchy if you messed them up anyway you will be reasonable to fix it , you take it to a shop they mess up they will have to fix it

Gears can go smoothly or a bitch , if it's a weekend jeep then do it yourself if a DD have someone else do it

Same here. I installed a lift in driveway and numerous other projects, but my gears will be installed by a pro next week. It's one of those things you don't want done wrong.

It's not that hard, you just have to take your time and not get rushed-- the hardest part is the shims....

I'm in the same boat. I'm planning on regearing also, but have never done it. I would love to try it out, but don't want to screw it up and lock up when going down the free way. That and I have lockers to put in and run lines.

I asked the same question and everyone said I take it to a shop and be done with it. I plan on taking it to Evo and having them do it with their special.

Is it hard? No not really. Does it take time? Yes and lots of it.

I would say start reading and don't stop reading. Once you can explain it to someone else, your ready.
