Default Help with Hydra Lock

Ontario Jeep diagnosed my Jeep with water in the engine. They said $1200 to tear down to see the extent of the problem. Does anyone have any experience with this?

On a side note, I got into an argument with Dave the service writer who called my a liar when I said that I didn't have the Jeep submerged. He said the only way that could happen was if it were submerged to the intake. The water wasn't up to the bumper, and I have video of it. Are there any possible malfunctions or poor instal of the K&N cold air intake that could have made this happen.

Bummer. It's possible that you splashed enough water into the CAI to cause the hydrolock without submerging the actual intake. CAI's are more susceptible to that kind of thing.

Might be cheaper to get a new engine and have it installed.... You dont have to have it submerged to have this happen. Going fast though a large even not so large puddle will do it. If the water is coming over your or stays in front of your hood in a wave type action your going to fast, it just needs a way to enter the engine, such as the air box..... and could do what you did.... and from the Pics posted the water holes looked more than deep enough...for this ,

Ohhh do you have the cold air intake K&N or an airbox.... if its the cold air... that is very easy to HYDRO LOCK because there is nothing protecting the intake but the filter which lets things through especially water when wet... You need an airbox or snorkle. this water play should not be be attempted with a cold air intake. Its a straight funnle for water.

Well the problem is hitting the water at speed, it creates a wave... which is higher in the front then the back, hence you might be only at the bottom of the doors when you stop in the water but when you hit it going pretty fast the wave you create in front of the jeep swamps the Airbox. Which if you have a CAI is pretty easy to do :( Thats why when you see jeeps crossing rivers or large bodies of water they aren't going to fast.

Sorry to hear that, man. It's stories like this that make me even more sure I do not want a CAI.

damn that sucks, just makes you realize jeeps that go anywhere near water should NOT have a cai, its not worth the extremely little improvements you get.

Check with camp crocker he has 3.8's brand new that he took out of his jeeps for the hemi. I know he said 1600 for one in one thread. If you got water in it its shot and will cost you way more then that to rebuild. 1200 to check it is the biggest RIPOFF!!! Good luck.

Good luck! I know Dave and I know he knows his stuff! If there is water in your engine you were going too fast. (post the video on youtube)

Doesn't look good, and I agree that Dave seems to know his stuff. I just didn't agree with the him saying that I had it submerged past the hood.
Anyways, I have accepted the situation and now I need the best advice to get it remedied quickly and cost effectively.
