Caroline, John Bull is an awesome trail and currently my favorite. However, it is a tough trail. I suspect it will be tougher right now because very few people have been through it yet this season to stack rocks and make it easier. Vince and I have run it twice, including once in the dark. As you know, Vince has (actually had) a stock Rubicon, which has 32" tires, 2 lockers, and rock guards, and he used all of them frequently. He made it through without any damage, but it was difficult and exhausting (even for him). We had to pull him out of two spots, including:

Vince also made a short video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d21qDlyxQuw.
For what it is worth, the people behind the Big Bear Forest Fest rate John Bull as "hard" and require a minimum of 32" tires and 2 lockers.
Hope that helps you make a decision.
