Default Looking for a job...

Hey there,

I just moved to the San Diego north county area (Scripps Ranch) from the Metro Detroit area. I'm looking for a job in the automotive industry, or really any industry where my skills are applicable. I'm a Customer Support Engineer and I'm looking for something in Customer Support, Quality, Sales, Business Development, etc... I've been in the automotive industry for over 15 years and I'm hoping to find something where I can apply my knowledge. I'm having a hard time even finding automotive companies in the area so any advice, contacts or leads would be great.

Just thought I would throw this out there and see what I get back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

All of the automotive companies are a little further north. Irvine area has Chrysler, Mercedes, Ford, Hyundai, I think Toyota and Lexus have offices in that area too.

HSBC used to have a large indirect subprime office on Copley Drive in SD, but they decided to exit the automotive business last year.

There are a few alternative energy vehicle start up companies down your way that look interesting. Might want to take a look at that angle.

I've looked on Monster... and Career Builder... and LinkedIn... and Indeed... etc. I'm also working with Lee Hecht Harrison here in SD as part of my severance. One thing I'm learning is that you don't get jobs from the internet (4%), you get jobs from meeting people (68 - 82%).

I just thought I would post on here and see what I get back from all of you...people who know the area and more importantly people who know people in the area. Any contacts I can make could be helpful. I went to Woods house for the fender cutting session just to meet some people in the area, and I did meet some good guys.

If I can steal a line from the movie Wedding Crashers... "People helping people... It's powerful stuff."

Thanks again!
