Default Mojave Trail/Laughlin to Barstow

The Mojave Trail/Road, Laughlin to Barstow has been something I have wanted to do since I bought my Jeep 2 years ago. Well, my son is leaving for Marine Corp. bootcamp in Jan. 2016. I would love to do this with him, as well as many other things, but,,,Would anyone especially someone familiar with it(trail master) be interested in doing it in the next 4-8 weeks? The more the merrier.....I look forward to hopefully putting something together!

Since your somewhat familiar with the Mohave and possibly the stumps (29 Palms). It's possible that someone up there knows their way around out there. Tell your son that it will take a lot to become a Marine but what he gains from it will be more than he will understand while at boot camp. Good luck and gods speed on both of your journeys.

Check out this Book, Mojave Road Guide - Dennis G Casebier - DesertUSA Store Should help you on your quest. And congratulations to your son for choosing the Marines. He will learn and do things most people today could not even begin to fathom.

There has been a lot of rain in that area in the past week, with the El Nino effect expected to bring a lot more over the winter months. This will have a lot of effect on two areas that are a large part of the trip. The two water crossings at Afton Canyon may become impassable to vehicles not equipped with a snorkel after Veteran's Day (when rain becomes more regular) and Soda Lake will require a go-around from Baker to Zzyzx Road until Spring. Watch the weather, and plan accordingly.
