Default New to the jeep thing

So I have a basic idea of what i want to do to my JK. I want a 3-4" lift and 20" wheels on 35-37's. I called up a local suspention shop in Irvine, and got a quote. $12,000 is what the sales assosiate said would be "the rough estimate". Now, be easy on me, I don't know much, at all, about lifts, tires, wheels, or anything else about jeeps. But he claimed I needed new gears and computer stuff installed as well. I took him as a BSer. 12 thou seems STEEP!i was looking to spend 3. Someone school me up please.

"J E E P" in an acronym for: Just Empty Every Pocket
That being said, I recommend that you drive your Jeep stock for about a year and see just exactly what you really need as opposed to what you think might look good. A stock Jeep is very capable right off the showroom floor and you will be surprised just how much it will do off road. But before any of us can make any kind of recommendations, we need to know a lot more about your JK. What model is it? Two or four door? What packages were included? What type of transmission? etc, etc. You might also want to attend the meeting of local North County JK owners tomorrow night, 7:00PM, at the Stone Brewery in Escondido. See the string below.

Ok bro here it is. Call Terra Flex or Rubicon Express. www.teraflex.biz or rubiconexpress.com.

They can hook you up with prices, but my 3" with the track bar, control arms and some other stuff was a grand. Wheels, well I recommend 16's or 15's for 4xn, but if you want 20's and 35's you'll have to ask someone else. Also, tires can be expensive for my 16" wheels and tires I spent about $1600.00. With my TF lift that's about 2600, now add in my hypertech programmer and you're close to 3G. If you go 4" you may need new drive shafts at least 400 a piece. Plus the kits more expensive and then add on wheels and tires. Yes the Bser is high, but you need to be more clear about what you want. You basically asked him, IMHO, hey how much can you help me spend. I'd look around and figure out exactly what you want. Here's a pic of my 3" lift with 35's and 16's. I think it looks good.

If you are building a Jeep just for looks I would say the 20s might be cool If you want the jeep to be a trail machine go with 15" 16" or 17". I have 15" and wish I went 17" just because the tires I want 37x12.50 BFG km2 arent available in 15"s.

Both Desert Fox and Leonard Massi are spot on

You did the right thing asking the JK community

But remember the bigger you go on rim size the tire price shoots to the moon

LEave the 20"s to the truck guys, you own a Jeep. 17" with 35s -37's looks right. Unless you are looking at some fancy ass wheel there are tons in the 17" range for less than $200 a peice

You will want to re-gear with 5.13's probably.

I agree with L.M. call Joe at Teraflex, he is a sponsor and will treat you well.

Welcome to the forum.

If you can't make it to the North County meet up come by the OC Suds'nGrub

It is worth it just to see some of the Jeeps (not mine though)

First, welcome to the forum!

Second, Give David at Northridge4x4 a call. He can help you figure out exactly what you will need! And then when you are ready to have everything installed call Mel at Off Road Evolution. They are located in Fullerton and will take good care of you!

Also, as Sully mentioned, come out to the OC Sud-n-Grub next week to meet up with us! You can see other JK's and ask all the questions you want!

Since you are so close, you should come to the SD County Meet and Greet tomorrow at Stone Brewery. Then you will be able to see a few Jeeps with various amounts of work done to them, also be able to do a lot of Jeep talk over some good suds...
