Default Rate Big Bear Trails

Going to Big Bear next weekend and am looking for a new trail that's challenging. Done John Bull and Holcolm, what else is recommended? Are they the toughest? On a 10 to 1 sale 10 being unpassable in a JK, what other tails do you recommend and how would you rate them?

JB is considered the hardest by most folks.

Trails not listed that are fun/ challenging are Dishpan, Gold Mountain, Pontiac Sluice'/Heartbreak Ridge, Rattlesnake.

Ranford truck trail is really pretty but not hard.

Yea i would agree JB is a 5 to 6, I would think there has to be something more technical or tough in those mountains???

Couple extra credit lines at motino wash but aside of that not a lot....there's a couple lines we take at john bull that has almost flipped us a few times but aside of that yeah its just not hard...
Hang for a bit for the weather to drop off a bit and we are hitting lower 13 in ocotillo and Johnson valley (not the lighter stuff).

White mountain up there has a couple climbs that are more buggy line than jeep line that are a blast....

SD 4wheelers will be doing the annual ocotillo run and Dan and those guys lead the lower 13 run which is a blast...you will damage the body and make sure you don't run a top.....it damages buggies sides as well...its a equal opportunity trail lol it just does damage....its a solid 8

That's funny...small world...I donate the dumpster for their event, quite a few of those canyons can cause havoc if your not careful! Be fun to meet up their or JV.

BB doesn't have anything else up there that would be considered technical. You want that go to JV and run the Hammers. Expect body damage on the Hammers.

Hey when and where are you headed out to? I am looking to head out for the first time to BB. I don't want to slow you down if that's not what you are looking for.

Let me know.

If you want more technical than BB, you should try Lucerne. You have Pancake, Bull Frog, Cougar Buttes and the Hammers. I was just up in the high desert and e weather was in the low 90's. nice weather.

John Bull, I'd give it a low 5. Maybe a 4 depending on the weather and conditions. I feel all the trails in Big Bear are built with a CJ/YJ on 31s in mind. Our JKs with very minimal mods make quick work of these trails with the right lines.

As mentioned, if you want something harder, run Motino Wash (6) with the options or head down the mountain to Cougar Buttes off Camp Rock Road. If you are looking for stuff beyond that, keep going down the highway towards 29 Palms to the Hammers. There you can find trails that you would consider an 11.
