I took my test in Carlsbad, CA on Saturday. It cost me $5. I guess cost varies by location.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Congrats on passing the test, now you have to go for the code part.
Just have CB and 2m/440 hand held in the Jeep.
Thinking about getting the IC-706 Mk ll-G or the IC-7000 for the Jeep, the IC-7000 has 2M/440 in it so that may come under I'd like it but really don't need more 2M radios.
Enjoy the bands.

If I do follow through with getting my General the IC-706 will be my first choice. I'm going to pickup a cheap 6m to see if I can even get interested in the HF class. If i get bit by some type of bug I'll take the General, sell the cheap-o and my 208H and buy the 706. I just don't know if HF will be of any use to me in the Jeep. I'm surely not going to do anything at the house.

you would be surprised about HF, about 30 years ago I had the chance to take a ride with a ham that had HF in his car and while driving in Anaheim, he was talking to some guy in Hawaii, that's when I decided to get my license. 2M/220/440 gets to be like CB sometimes, that's when its nice to go to HF if the bands are open.
