Stuck at Bronco's Peak
So we decided to take out our new JK out for some wheeling, and in all our wisdom, we attempted a trail rated "most difficult". After all, we had bumped into another wheeler in a CJ-5 at Los Pinos Lookout who said,"Wow, thats a sick Jeep, you could easily kill Bronco Peak", to which my novice reply was "oh really, alone? I wouldnt need another rig following?" ....."nah, you're good to go"
And so we went, and we reached the top, which I must say was steep, rocky, and without lockers, hard, but we made it. The same cannot be for the descent.
After about 3 hours of trying to come unstuck, we abandonded the Jeep, and had to call the Park Ranger to come rescue us as the sun was setting and the temps were dropping fast. Unfortunatley, because of the trail conditions, he couldnt reach us, and so we had to walk about an hour to get to him. The gent was very kind enough to drop us us of at Veijas Casino well after dark, for us to catch a cab ride home.
What do I do? I am new in the area and dont know many people. How do I get a Jeep thats 1hr east of SD out and down the mountain?
Next morning, rise and shine, I kick it to the Off Road Warehouse store, and tell them, "I need help getting my jeep out of Bronco Peak" I proceed to show them a few pics of the situation. Most of the reply's are "woah...thats serious bra".. a few calls later and we have a punter willing to give it a shot.
Our rescuer turns out to be a gent by the name of Ian, who pulls up in a Rubicon running 37" ...there is no stopping this guy...he managed to get up the trail in 10mins when it took us about an hour to get to the peak. And then another hour and countless times nearly flipping our rig, he finally gets us out and down the mountain.
One thing I learnt....dont try this if you're afraid of getting an invoice from the body shop.

Why would you try a most difficult trail alone.....
that was just asking for what occurred.
does not appear to have a hi lift / no winch - alone.......
YOU GUYS ARE LUCKY>>> REALLY LUCKY. and I hope you learned more than just don't try it if you don't want to see the body shop... that is the least of your worries.
BUT, Glad to hear you made it out safely.
it also appears you didn't have any supplies for the just in case, extra food or water.

Hey SGT your right 100%, but at the time youthful excuberence takes over and clouds any thinking. Naturally now none of us are interested in going anywhere unless there is a group...
As for the hi lift, we had one, but the angle at which the rig was resting on was too steep for it to work.
All round a lesson well learnt. Oh well, as rangleme says, a story under our belts.
Speaking of group trips, is there anything coming up in the next couple of weeks around this area? We're well keen!
