Default Visiting L.A. In September

I'll be in L.A. (La Habra/Whittier/Fullerton area) the first week of September. I'm thinking about driving from Colorado so I can hit a trail or two while I'm there.

My biggest question is, are there any trails near the L.A. area that don't require 2-4 hours of drive time before you hit the trail head? Traildamage.com (trail guide I use for Colorado) only has 3 trails listed.

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

It would help to know what level of difficulty you are looking for...? Miller Jeep Trail, Drinkwater Flat, and Rowher Flat are all areas you will be less than an hour away from. If you are looking for something more difficult, there are the trails in Big Bear, Calico Ghost Town Regional Park, and the Stoddard Wells areas.

I'd like something rated moderate to difficult. If im driving from Denver, i want to make it worth the trip. My JK has done some hairy stuff out here in CO. But I'll look up those trails for sure! Thanks!

I'll be coming through Utah and Nevada (I15), so I want to try and run some trails along my route into L.A. I think Calico might be in there somewhere.

Someone told me Azusa canyon, but when I lived out there, I remember it as a dirt bike run.

Cleghorn is fun and is right off the 15.
