Default Amicalola: Missing trail

gpb and I were exchanging private messages based on a question I posed about a side trail. The Forest Service's Motor Vehicle Use Map came up and I provided a link.

gpb then pointed out that the trail connecting 28-2 to the back of the state park was missing. I thought it was strange, because I've used this map before and I was certain it was on there. I checked mine and it was there. Mine is a 2007 and the current one online is 2008.

To make it easy to visualize I took some screen clips and put them together.

So my question, is this is an honest error or redesignation, or is the forest service quietly closing down forest service roads with no public input? IANAL, but something doesn't smell right about this.

there is no telling what they are doing. Mississippi still does not have any maps for a person to use and we still don't know if any or which roads will be opened this year. they are saying that all cross country travel will be stopped. we are supposed to have maps ready in August, here it is near September and the web site hasn't a single one listed. lousy government.

I was up there last weekend and that road is open. It is possible it got removed accidently as part of the Anderson Creek OHV closing.

I guess it's possible, but Anderson OHV was closed before the map was printed. The information from the forest service makes it clear that signage is not required to close the roads. Here is the relevant text:
It is prohibited to posses or operate a motor vehicle on National Forest System lands on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests other than in accordance with these designations (CFR 261.13).

Violations of 36 CFR 261.13 are subject to a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment or up to 6 months or both (USC 3571(e). This prohibition applies regardless of the presence of absence of signs.

Anyone have a paper map showing FS46 removed? My 2006 USFS map shows it as open.

When I was up there recently there was no indication of any attempt to close it down; in fact there were a bunch of people camped at various campsites along the road. It would seem if there was an active movement to close that road there would be some sort of signage, gate, berm, or other impediment.

Does someone have the ability to drop by one of the ranger stations and ask?

The purpose of them coming out with the Motor Vehicle Use map was to designate forest service roads that the public can drive on. According to their information anything not on the map is forbidden.

I'm not arguing one way or another just bestowing the information that I have.
