Hey everyone! I'm from the Boston area but was just on vacation with the family out in Kansas City, Branson and then around the Harrison Arkansas area to visit my wife's grandfather. We flew out there so was in a rented Camry but did a lot of driving around the Ozarks to various places my wife's grandfather wanted to show us. It was absolutely amazing and beautiful and was not what I expected at all. Seeing the Arkansas "grand canyon", eating at the Ozarks Café, seeing tons of farms and even the land her grandfather owns (only 170 acres or so as he says) was just awesome.
Anyway, we will most likely head back there at some future date. We honestly did not have enough time to do everything we wanted around the Branson area as well as the site seeing tour in Arkansas. One of the ideas we are considering for our next trip is to drive rather than fly. And we would take my Jeep.
I am NOT looking for any specifics on trails right now but was hoping to get a sense of what wheeling in that area is like. Are there public trails? Are there other Jeepers in that area that would be around for exploring (I never wheel alone). Coming from MA, we have very little public trails here so the only way to do it is through a club. I don't want to drive my Jeep out there if that area is similar.
My wife's grandfather kept pointing out dirt roads and mountain roads and said those would be fun in a jeep but I don't want to find myself trespassing!
Just looking for some thoughts on the area and if it would be worth taking the Jeep or should we stick to the Honda! Always looking for new people to wheel with so if there are local clubs in that area willing to do a wheeling tour for an out of towner, that would be great.

Mpkelley... Arkansas is home to me even though I live in TN now and I can honestly tell you that you could spend a month there riding back roads and not see them all. From the Ozarks to the Ouachita mountains there is a never ending supply of trails. Not to mention you have Hot Springs if you wanted to hit an OHV. Only thing to warn you is that it gets dang hot, we get tornadoes, and have absolutely no shortage of mosquitoes!
Awesome! Thanks for the info! I am really looking forward to heading back there. My wife mentioned Hot Springs so that is on our agenda next time we go. I need to convince her to drive rather than fly. It's about 23 hours so no different from driving to Disney like a lot of our friends have done. I might consider renting a trailer and towing my jeep with my Durango. Might take a little longer but at least I won't have to worry about my Jeep exploding on me!
