Default Busted axle

So, for those of you who went to Hard Rock last Sunday and saw me bust a U joint in all of my glory I finally got around to fixing it thismorning. Now, upon closer inspection I will be looking for a driver side Dana 30 axle as it is cracked. Anybody got a spare? But on a positive note, I was able to get about 98% of the scratches out.

Man, that blows! Sorry to hear it was more extensive. As a credit to your driving, you drove hardrock in mostly two wheel drive.....at most three wheel drive.

...and you didn't quit.

Thanks for the compliment Coach. Now I just gotta find someone who has upgraded their axles so I can pick up a stock one. I am also thinking about going to Superiors hardened axles, but don't really want to put that much money into a Dana 30.

Mickey

Sorry to hear about the drive shaft. Better to find it out now than get it all together and then brake it. It was a pleasure meeting you and Talesha. I'm lookin' forward to wheelin' with you again.

Chris,

It was nice to meet you also. Plus, that is a bad ass tank you have!

So........ After debating what to do for the last two weeks I desided to upgrade to the Superior D30 chromoly axle. I know the D30 isn't the best way to go, but I don't see having the extra funds in the near future to upgrade the whole front axle. I also don't see replacing with a stock axle to only have the same problem in the future. I know I will have to upgrade the passenger side, but will have to address that side later. Now, if I hit the lottery it's on! But until then.....

Mickey, if it makes you feel better. I have read that the outer casing for the 30 is the same as the 44. If you are upgrading the guts, it should serve you well. Good luck.

Has anyone found a source for U-Joints besides the dealer? I know they're Spicer's but don't know if the Mopar part number will cross reference with anything else. I tired the local parts stores, Napa, etc and they got nothin... I'm sure not wanting to drop another $85 on a stock replacement that's for damn sure!

The dealer also sells a "budget" U joint for $50.00. You just have to ask them, if they tell you they don't, then find another dealer. I found out from the parts guy at Jerry Ulm Dodge in Tampa. He also told me that I put them side by side I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It just doesn't say Mopar on the box. I ended up canceling the ones I ordered from Quadratec because they weren't 100% sure they would fit. I "should" have the new axle in 2 weeks due to back order. Does anyone have a hub puller I can borrow?
