also I do know someone from NJ who had one on his fan and it caused all kinds of trouble, dont know if it was his wiring job though lol

you WOULD think Jeep would have figured that out, but they screwed us with a wide open fan motor, even though they know Spal makes 100% waterproof fans , check out the pics i posted link to of the nice holy motor
Yeah, unfortunately the only real solution is a sealed motor (see expensive & seals wear quick). Sorry, electrics and water just don't play well together. 
edit: I bet if someone took the time to fab an appropriate fan shroud a clutch fan WOULD work. Any fan needs a good shroud to work properly.

That water looks mighty appetizing to me, i fight to hit big puddles so you can imagine how seeing those pics you posted makes me feel right now BUT is it possible for 2wd to overcome?? I mean depth doesn't seem like a BIG factor to me its just the ground beneath and if its too unstable for a 2 tire fire to get through...
