Currahee!!! (Long)
What a day, I wanted to take my JK out for it's maiden run on some dirt and decided to go to a place called Locust Stake in Toccoa, unfortunately it was only for ATV's so mission aborted... My sister had the idea to go to Currahee Mountain, made famous as the training ground for the Rangers in the "Band of Brothers". Well, we got pretty lost and ended up in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management area.
It was great, there were miles of dirt roads leading to nowhere, we found old cemeteries, homesites (that were long gone) and remnants of whiskey stills from the late 1800's. These hills were once a thriving community but nature has all but reclaimed most traces of the residents. I was also able to shoot my 9mm for the first time (Taurus PT709) awesome little carry piece!
Another jewel I found was an old sewing machine, I originally thought it was from the 1930s but after tracing the serial number it is a 1891 Singer VS2 sewing machine, really dirty but a fine specimin, I am going to clean it up and donate it to the Toccoa Museum. Hopefully the Singer company can give me some info on the original buyer so I can add that to the history.
We finally found the road up Currahee, the Jeep made the climb effortlessly, what a machine. I am so glad I bought this, I see many memories being made with my Jeep.
Well thanks for listening and now I really understand that "it's a Jeep thing"
