I've been to both, they offer different types of wheeling! For those driving from out of the state or long distances they are both worth it!

I agree. Tellico is more for "Get there, wheel non-stop and go back to town to socialize."
At Durhamtown you can do that as well, or you can go for a while, take a break and go back and eat a hot lunch and then go some more. They also have night wheeling there.

Last time a group of us went to Tellico we stayed at Crawfords Campground, which is located about 8 miles from the trail head. Check them out.... http://www.crawfordsattellico.com/

Murphy, NC is about a 25-30 minutes away from the trail head and they have everything you need there.

As for the trails at Tellico, there are many different options and levels of difficulty as does Durhamtown. Both locations will offer enough options to break into groups and not get backed up on the trail as long as it is planned and organized. You can also wheel at night at Tellico, we did due to running into a dead end and spending an extra 1.5 hours on the trail, !

For those who are not wanting to go to Tellico or are not sure about what there is to offer, check out youtube and ask around! Everyone I have ever talked to says they will go back. There is talk that the trails may be closed for good in the future, go while you can!

I understand wanting to go to Tellico "before it closes"
it is a great place to ride.
but, just out of curiousity, does anyone else remember that for the past 10 years or more, every year it's the same thing? "Ride Tellico this year before it closes!!!"
maybe it's just me, but I'm not holding my breath until they close it. I remember everyone freaking out years ago (I'm guilty, I went that year). and later that season it came out that it was just a rumor.
I do hope I'm right. it would be a shame to loose it.

I voted Dtown, but honestly would love to go to tellico. I'm just a little intimidated by tellico. Only cause I see such awesome video's and pics. My rig, at most, might have a 2.5" BB and rock sliders by then. So, I just hope that they've got some good in-between trails. I don't want some sissy senic view trail, but I definitely don't wanna bash up my rig on a bunch of huge rocks and bolders.

My vote definitely has been swayed to Tellico, just because I'm such a sucker the smokie mountain area. That's one reason why I'm moving closer to there, knoxville.

I did a lot at Tellico with a stock Rubicon and have been there with a Saraha with a BB on street tires. There are bypasses for any difficult obstacle and trails rated for all levels!

There are some pics of our Tellico ride this past fall here ---> https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...499#post781499 . Like 08{GA}RUBICON says, almost all the rocky stuff has bypasses. There were two groups that went up, one rode fairly light to moderate stuff, while the other headed straight to the boulder stuff. Don't let all the pics of the boulder stuff fool ya . . . you can ride for miles without having to mess with serious rocks if you don't want to.
