Hey guys newb here.

I've been a Jeep guy up untill last year when I got a truck. Truck was nice for hauling mulch and stuff but it had no soul. I never wheeled it and I just missed driving a Jeep. Sold the truck last week and am currently looking for my JK. I've been surprised at how hard it has been to find a Unlimited, 4wd, manual with hard top power windows and any gears besides the 3.21. I didn't think any of the 07 Sahara manuals had the 3.21's but I've called my local dealer to run some VIN's through the system and they have all come up with the 3.21 gears. But searching is half the fun right?

Welcome pookie, glad you found us. Step up to an '08 where the min ratio is 3.73.

Or just say "To h&ll w/ it, I'm gonna' change gears anyway!"
(Thats what I did... 2 yrs later and still savin' for gears.)

If you find one with the towing package, it should have 4.10 gears (mine does - of course, I ordered it that way). It also came with tranny cooler, but I have an auto.

 

Welcome pookie. Despite the economy the JKs are hard to come by sometimes. And that is especially true if you're looking for a specific configuration.

Thanks guys. I took my wife to check out an 07 unlimited X with 3.21 gears on Sun. It drove fine, but I think the 3.73 gears would be way better, and the 4.10's even better if I can find them.

I saw there was a 07 Sahara soft top manual in the Atlanta Craigslist for $18K. It had the 3.21 gears but the lady selling it said the clutch and tranny had been replaced under warranty. I looked at the recalls and didn't see any for the tranny. Anyone know anything about that?

Drove an 09 stripped down entry level unlimited X soft top manual with these little itty bitty baby road tires over the weekend. I was really surprised at how quiet the new soft top is. Coming from a TJ and a CJ before that having a conversation without yelling at the other party was a nice change.

I seem to recall something about the early MY07 manuals that had clutch issues. You might try a search, but I'd imagine it'd be tough to find them. Anybody remember anything about that, or am I just crazy?

 

Welcome pookie. Might check down here in Huntsville, AL. Drove by the dealer (Landers McLarty) yesterday, and he had several Unlimiteds lined up on the lot. Noticed one or two Rubicon's, but wasn't looking close enough to tell if a Sahara was in the bunch. Guy in our office just bought an X there, loaded like a Sahara, for a screaming deal just a few weeks ago.
