I drove mine around quite a bit between 8k and 10k ASL and didn't notice much power loss. It wanted to up shift more, but I was climbing some fairly steep grades and it is a 5 speed after all. Just saying....

30% loss of hp at 10k ft. That's something I notice, but maybe I'm just sensitive to it.

I love in CO. Just went up to 11k feet. I noticed some power loss was still able to do everything without issue. Maybe I'm supposed to pull 1/4 mile under 12 up there? Huh, I don't know that......

Ah yes, the internet. A smartass on every corner. I live here too and I can do just as much on the trails as well. But our daily commute (where everyone does 99% of their driving) and happens to be 6k-8k for me is a pretty noticeable performance difference from the rest of the country averaging SL or close to.

Sorry, nothing worthwhile to argue, just physics.

I just moved from sea level. Run on e-470 every week. I didn't see an mpg drop, and not much difference in feel. Dyno? I'm sure you could see the change in numbers. I guess I feel, if I wanted HP and top end performance, I wouldn't have bought a jeep. Or, i wpuld have opted for the sweet SRT8. Not t mention, the peak HP and torque are at higher rpms than the vast majority of anybody actually drive at.

The numbers?
The old 3.8-liter V-6 produced 202 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 237 pounds-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The new 3.6 puts out 285 hp at 6,400 rpm and 260 pounds-feet at 4,800 rpm.

The formula?
HP Loss = (elevation x 0.03 x horsepower @ sea level)/1000. That's about 45 HP from sea level to 5280'. That's at peak power (6400rpm). Considering whp at 189hp (assuming sea level), this variance is far less, reflecting 29.9xxxx horsepower loss. For a vehicle weighing at 5800 lbs., that's a realistic yet negligible difference. In this entire mix, torque gets you moving. Horsepower keeps you moving.

Under normal acceleration, you may hit these rpms. Trail? Rarely. There is no argument to be had when numbers are there.

I'm an engineer, prosthetists and a bio mechanist. How are those physics for ya? I believe I now earned the smart ass badge.

Sorry I bruised your ego and you felt the need to spend all this time on the subject. Funny that we're arguing who feels what out if their 3.6 pig. It ain't a big deal. My opinion is my opinion, is it your personal mission to change that and Jesus, why?

I was a shop foreman at a professional race engine shop for many years including operating our in-house dyno. I too have an engineering degree (whoda thunk?) and now fly aircraft for a living.
Big deal. But thanks for your dissertation so others can learn in awe.

Is the friggin internet smart ass pissing match over now so all can get back to the regularly scheduled program?

PS, your time might be more useful arguing all the guys saying how they actually feel a marked improvement from a CAI, TB spacer or exhaust install. Haha!

Eh, wasn't an ego bust. I'm just identifying with not understanding the guys who knowingly buy a Jeep and are disappointed with the lack of power, bad mpg, etc. I am perplexed when it appears to be such a surprise. Particularly after an increase in tire size, lift height, etc.
I'm a power junkie myself. Hell, that's why I'm entertaining the thought of an sc. But it's not being dissatisfied with what I have. It's just because I like more.

I'm completely satisfied with mine. Wasn't complaining. I simply responded (and not to you) to someone that thought there was a lot of hype over the 3.6. I mentioned it was just a little less of a dog than the 3.8 and frankly that's my opinion, it doesn't need to be quantified by you. It's a 5k lb Jeep with the aerodynamics of a box running a v6. No surprise.

Just don't get what your hard on is for me.
