This is interesting. I have a 2008 I recently installed the rack on. I have driven it over a thousand miles including highway speeds with just the plain rack. I barely noticed any wind noise change although I can very slightly feel increased drag. Now I have yakima cross bars, kayak holders, shovels, axes, and thule cargo box attached to it and yet the wind noise is minimal. I can feel the extra drag but have not had to drive into a heavy headwind at highway speeds yet.

I do only drive with a hard top so maybe that is the noise difference. I have to say I love this rack and am very pleased with it in all respects.

If you could put a pic of your rig on here with all that gear it could help. Thanks

I guess everyone's tolerance for wind noise are really different. All racks will create noise and wind drag. But I am sure due to the Hard Top, Soft top or no top on our JK. you sure will notice more compare to Grand Cherokee, Suburban, and other solid full top roof with insulation.

Turn up the radio!!!!:D:D:D

I should have mentioned the link again from post #58 from this thread. Here it is again. Hi-Lift is on its way to be attached to the outside too. I expect significant mileage decrease for high speed driving.

I don't have a picture in the gallery yet of the yakima cross bars and kayak holders. I will put that up next week when I get back from vacation.

I have a stealth w/o lights over a hard top. I notice a little wind noise, but much less than I expected. I do notice the drag but only in 6th. I can’t maintain above 80 in 6th now. All in all, I have noticed ~1 mpg decrease in fuel efficiency. Still wouldn't trade it though.

I'm really annoyed with this, now. I bought this earlier this year, and love the rack, but I'm bummed that they didn't have the sunroof insert available at that time - now it's more if ordered separate - and I paid $100 more for the rack! :banghead:

Just my luck!

Yeah thats a bummer. I have seen people selling them on Ebay for $1500-$1600 and this was the best price I found.

Dave:

I see on Gobi's site that they make a fairing for almost every other rack that they sell. As we know that they don't respond well to individual consumers, can you try and get out of them if any of those will fit the JK? I'm either going to have to buy one, make one or take the rack off. It's ungodly loud with the soft top on. Can't turn the radio up loud enough...
