The bottom of the bars are 2 1/4" above the hard top and the expanded metal deck is 3 1/4" above the hard top.

I HAVE had an issue with this that I'm still sorting out. The AirTop Black Storm Medium, which is what I have, does not have a long enough track to be mounted to both sets of the Gobi cross bars that would be flush with the bottom of the tent. I could solve this by moving the tent back some so it's a$$ hangs off the back a little, but I have two camping work lights back there so that is not an option. As a result (and you can see this in my install picts), there is a lot of distance between the rear cross bar I had to use and the bottom of the tent. This space allows it to wiggle a bit and although I've driven it several thousand miles with no issues, if I do a super technical trail with step descents in the area of 30 degrees or so and I have to hit the brakes hard, the tent slides forward and the rear mounting points slide out of the track. It is still perfectly secured believe it or not, even at highway speeds with just the front two, which are closer to the middle than the front, but it's obviously disconcerting. I'm working on a solution.

Additionally, I've had no luck with the Gobi wind deflector in almost any situation. Prior to the Maggiolina, the soft top flapped like crazy in the back. After the Maggiolina, that went away, but there is significant white noise wind noise up front now. I've been told the tents are pretty quiet so then I removed the wind deflector and it made almost no difference. The problem could possibly be exacerbated by the 4 IPF's I have up there as well, but I'm still looking for a good wind noise solution.

Okay, so I have, as you can see from this thread, a Maggiolina Airtop tent mounted on a Gobi Ranger rack. The Ranger is tubular, the tent is flat on the bottom. When installing any bracket type accessory on the Gobi, the top flange of the bracket creates a significant raised area over the top of the rack tube, thereby creating a high spot on the horizontal tube, that grinds into the bottom of the flat tent that is resting on the bar. The brackets I currently have include a shovel and axe mount and the ARB awning mounts.

Any suggestions on the best way to create space between the bottom of the tent and the top surface of the rack so that there is room for the accessory brackets to be installed without having them grind into the bottom side of the tent?

I thought if I could find some kind of saddle shaped poly bushing with a flat top I could get those, but I couldn't find anything like that. I also need something rigid enough to prevent too much vibration in the tent when offroading so it doesn't walk around up there.

Ideas?

What kind of "special pricing" are you guys offering currently? I'm building my rig up for a trip across the country and want this rack and an ARB tent. I had this setup on my 2006 Unlimited Rubicon (LJ). I need a price for the stealth rack, sunroof insert, ladder, wind deflector, quick discos, and the AEV rear bumper brackets. Let me know, shipped to 29672 (SC). When i purchased my LJ rack straight from GOBI they offered free ladder, wind deflector, and Sunroof inserts. Let me know the quote for my 2012 Unlimited Rubicon. I would contact Gobi. I wouldn't be surprised if they are willing to make some type of custom mount for you. I have their ARB awning mounts and they are very nice. they use a very nice padding on the inside of the mount. The ARB tent mounts look the same as your Magnolia mounts, I wish they were more like the Gobi mounts. As a matter of fact, Gobi really should start offering their own mounts. I think most RTT's mount the same way. The down side is that the Gobi mounts cost a fortune.

You sound like you are doing a similar style build to me. I put the Gobi stealth, an ARB Awning and an ARB RTT on my JK this spring for a cross country trip late this summer. I love the build but don't love the gas mileage. I am only getting about 12-14 highway. There has to be a way for me to improve that...without taking stuff off.

Yup! I LOVE the gobi racks.. they are TOP NOTCH! However, they do make your vehicle suffer on the fuel economy.. especially when coupled with 35's, 4.56's and a 3 in lift. But, in my opinion it's totally worth it.. and you make up the fuel costs by sleeping in the tent and not spending money on hotels!

You could improve the mileage... but it would take a HEMI and a LIGHT FOOT to accomplish that... I'll be doing the HEMI in the coming year or two for sure.. pentastar is nice, but it's no HEMI! haha
