OR-Fab NEW "BoneDoc" Rear Bumper
You can access the lights from underneath, so it's a pretty simple fix. As for life expectancy, I'm not certain. I just started testing mine, and Steve has had his for about 3 months. I hope we are talking years because these lights aren't cheap. The pair add about $120 to the bumper! (with brackets, seals, wire looms and such).

X3 on the license plate relocation! When I finally put a rear bumper back on my Jeep, the lic plate will go on the tire and that Hole will be filled. Those corners are sweet. Keep up the good work!
After re-reading my answer to your post I realized that I didn't answer the question well. Replacing these lights is simple. Here is an up-close picture of the light.

To replace the light you need to remove the rubber seal and replace the light through the front of the bumper. The lights are "clipped" into the bracket. When first putting these lights in (on a new bumper of course) the installation will be from inside the bumper (except for the seal), but after that there will be no need to remove the bumper.
I've also learned that these lights come with a 5 year warranty.

Thanks Guys!
