Looks like I might be waiting as well. I was just about to add an AEV snorkel to my xmas mods...

 

How does this design handle dirt accumulation? That's something that puzzles me about most of the jeep snorkels I've seen. It seems like you will have sand, plant matter, topsoil, and everything else going into the snorkel... how do you hose it out? Or do they have some other solution? I know it's a problem because even my non-snorkel intakes get filled with sand, bird feathers, leaves, and all sorts of junk in surprisingly short order.

I'm mostly interested in a snorkel to bring the intake up above sand level. I like the idea of fording but I wheel on dirt a lot more than water.

 

I just saw the preliminary design a few pages back. I'm in. I want one.

 

Our design, as well as most snorkels, have couplings that can be disconnected. Water can be used to flush the system out. This will be important after our system has been installed. Hope that helps.

We are currently working out the filter system. The key will be a sealed housing allowing the filter element and intake inlet to be set high in the engine bay. We also want maintenance to be easy and cost effective. We will avoid special filter elements and design it around a common shape that can be sourced locally if needed.

 

Wow. That is EXACTLY what I didn't know I needed. I've been following this thread and laughing at some of the requests.

But I must say, while I'm disappointed that it doesn't come with laser beams, I think you nailed just about every other reasonable design request.

AEV is now forgotten.

Two questions: Is there going to be a pre-filter option? (I live in the desert) And, do you have any ballpark estimates on cost?

I was just about to post up the same question. The pre-filter is one of the big reasons I was looking at AEV.

 

Integrates with both factory airbox and CAI's.

 

We are working on a simple solution for this.
