17 or 18 JK Manual Transmission Owners...Quick Favor To Ask
Dumb question of the day, but I just want to be sure of something.
I just had a factory rebuilt manual transmission installed in my JKU recently. It shifts and feels MUCH better than the original, even when the original was new. I looked on the documentation from the dealer, and it said ATF+4 fluid was installed. I considered this just a typo, but then I heard someone mention it somewhere else. I'm wondering if they changed the fluid for these transmissions.
Would someone with a 2017 and a 2018 check owners manuals to see if they changed from Synchromesh 75w85 to ATF+4? I'm not worried about mine, as it performs beautifully. I still think it is a typo, but maybe they found that ATF+4 works better.
Thanks!

When I changed my fluid I used Penzoil Synchromesh. The book recommends spec MS-9224. Before I changed my I did some research and found that both fluids were used, I never actually figured out when or why. Ultimately, I bought both the synchromesh and ATF+4. My plan was to change the tranny fluid first followed by the transfer case. If the tranny had ATF in it I’d be able too put new fluid in, and return the synchromesh for more ATF for the transfer case.

I'll be swapping the fluid probably around 10k, after it is well broken-in. I just don't know why they would write ATF+4 on the service sheet. Habit is my guess. They probably work on 20 or 30 automatic transmissions for every manual.
