I printed off the TSB and took it with me to the dealership. Once they realise you've done your own research and are holding the proof that there is a known problem, they have very little wiggle room. Got mine fixed about two months ago and has not popped out of 1st since. Parts weren't a problem either. Everything was done in under a week including parts ordering. Be sure you print off the the revised TSB!!

Mine does the same thing. Its bad enough that i dont use first gear any more just start out in second. I called dealer and asked about it he said that he had never heard of this problem before and that it was probbably from me lifting it. all I got is a 1" BL and it has done the pop out thing from the first month I bought the Jeep , I put the BL on this winter thinking that when I do this I would fix the problem by cutting the shift boot ( didnt work ). And I never told him I did the lift . So I am thinking I am gonna have a problem getting mine fixed .

My Jk (2010) has popped out of 1st gear about 10 times in 1800 miles. I also thought it was operator error. I would like to know if in fact there is a service bulletin on this problem, does any one know the # of the bulletin?
I sure do want it corrected if it can be.
Thanks

My JK does the same thing at the most random times. It will go months without happening, but if i hold it sternly in gear it never happens. While on the trail and easing it into first it has happened a few times also. It scares the s out of me every single time and makes me think the next time i swap out my Tranny fluid there will be all kinds of gnarly chunks and shreds from the mishaps.

I had the exact problem and got tired of shtting my pants every time it popped out. Dealer fought me like crazy, even with the TSB. The service manager practically called me a liar. One hour after we had the fight he called me back and the gear popped for him....

They replacd the gear/synchros but screwed up stuff so they ended up replacing the entire transmission.

Never had the problem since.

My 2010 Wrangler Sport (9800KM or 6000 miles) just started popping out of gear about 3 days ago. It seems to do it 3 or 4 times a day. I've been driving standards for over 30 years, and have never had this happen on ay other car.

It's done it about 4 times today. In one case it pooped out as I was pulling out to make a left turn across oncoming traffic. If the oncoming traffic was a little closer, I wouldn't be here writing this!

I see from some searches that there is a TSB out ( T.S.B. 21-001-10).

I guess I will try my luck with the dealer. What a pain in the butt. I know that no car is perfect, but isn't a manual transmission something that car makers should have pretty much perfected by now? Also, I see that it's been happening to JK owners since 2007. Why did it take so long to get a TSB out?

I'm not impressed. I imagine I will have hassles getting this fixed right the first time, and I will be without my vehicle - it is my DD.

<Sigh>

Well, thought I'd post an update. I called the dealer, and they got me in the next day. Towards the end of the day they told me it would run into the next day, and they'd give me a loaner if I came by.

It was ready when they said, and it appears to be fixed. The service rep wasn't too clear on what they actually did, but basically overhauled the transmission, replaced a synchro, and a couple of gears.

I must say, I got prompt service, and they fixed it quicker than I've been hearing for such a job. And I got to drive a Dodge Caliber (with CVT transmission) for a day - yippee

Gotta be impressed with that kind of service (Capital Dodge Chrysler).
